In this difficult season that we are facing as a country, I can’t help but think of the miraculous encounter my family and I experienced, during one of our most difficult seasons.
If you already know the story of our car crash, please bare with me. I want to share something that stood out to me today that I think may be encouraging.
My 84 year old Auntie Bettie, woke up in the early morning hours, Saturday before Memorial Day 1999, with an urgency to pray for me and my family. She got out of bed, and opened her Bible to Psalms 91.
“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalms 91:11-12
She wrote out the scripture on a piece of note paper and included all of our names- Sheri, Brew, Eric, Nathan, Emily and Lily.
She committed to pray that scripture over each of us for the next few days.
On Memorial Day, we were in a terrible car crash that should of taken all of our lives, but didn’t. Our lives were spared, and we found ourselves in the center of a miraculous intervention. My family and I were caught and surrounded by the hosts of heaven.
The Holy Spirit directed my aunt to her Bible, impressed on her heart how to pray for us, and she listened and followed His leading. God sent His angels to us that day just like the scripture says! I don’t fully understand the power of prayer because God is all powerful and can rule and overrule anything and everything, but for some reason He chooses to work through the prayers of people. God answered my aunt’s prayers and sent His ministering angels to take charge of the situation.
Check out these scriptures! “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:14
“Praise the LORD, you His angels, you mighty ones who do His bidding, who obey His word, Praise the LORD, all His heavenly hosts, you his servants who do His will.” Psalms 103:20-21
God sent His angels. They were there with us, ministering to us, out on the highway that day.
The answer to our earthly tragedy came from heaven!
What we experienced and learned from our car crash, gives us a glimpse of the unseen battles going on in the spiritual realm. The Bible says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, (people) but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm.” Ephesians 6:12
Believe in the power of your prayers for the days we are in! Pray for our nation! Pray for healing! Pray for reconciliation!
For those who witnessed our car flipping in the air and my children being tossed out onto the highway, it looked like there wasn’t an angel in sight. By all appearances, it looked like God abandoned us.
But in the midst of what looked like hell on earth for me and my family was quite the opposite. I have never felt more held and protected. I have never felt more of the presence of God, than in those moments. Even though my husband’s body was broken from head to toe, his first words as he came out of a coma were, “Did you feel Him?”
I don’t know about you, but this story encourages me today to pray! To believe that God sends answers from on High! His ways are not the ways of this world!
Believe that He is a good and loving God! Believe in the power of prayer!
