When Jesus said to His disciples, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him,” many of his disciples withdrew and no longer followed Him. Why?

They withdrew because they did not understand, and were most likely offended by this.

When Mary and Martha’s brother Lazarus was sick, Jesus got word about it, but He chose not to come right away like they hoped He would. By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus had been dead for four days. When Mary heard Jesus had finally arrived, she rose up quickly and hurried to meet him, fell at His feet and cried” Lord, if you would have been here, my brother would not have died.”

Mary could not understand why Jesus did not come right away. It didn’t make sense to her, because she and her family were close to Jesus and He loved them all so much.

Mary didn’t understand but what she did know and trust was Jesus himself.

There is so much going on in our world today that is hard to understand. Unbelievable amounts of pain, suffering, war, injustice….

Will we withdraw or fall?

“God, help us to stay close and spend time with you, so we would truly know you. May we be so secure in our relationship with you, that when faced with unknowns or harsh circumstances, our first instinct would be to run to you, not run from you. Help us Jesus to press in and know it is You who is our hiding place; our strong tower, no matter what is or isn’t happening. Your promises are true! – You will never leave us or forsake us. May we truly know you Lord.”

Lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6

Thank you for your insight, Sheri.
Calamity, pain, confusion, rejection, anger, or fear lead me to the choice: Withdraw or Fall?

…“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.”

Who will separate us from the love of Christ?… neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
