We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 2 Cor. 4: 8-10.
I said at the end of my last post, that my husband’s first words, upon awakening after three days of being unconscious, were “Did you feel Him?” He was not aware of much, but was totally aware of being carried by Almighty God. He woke up three days later, with a smile, saying those words to all those around him.
He was broken, and black and blue from head to toe. He did not remember anything about the crash, and to this day, he still does not remember. He had a brain injury in the short term memory part of the brain. He had broken bones all over his body, as well as every bone in his face. He had deep abrasions and road rash all over his body. He did not look like Brew at all. The doctors were very concerned about his brain injury and asked me a lot of questions.. All I can say is “But God! This crash should of been fatal for all of us, but God! We were protected, kept and caught.
The kids and I left the hospital to go home four days after the crash. Brew had to stay in Klammath Falls another ten days. It was difficult for all of us to leave him there. He needed time before being moved and had to have his jaws wired shut. He would be ambulanced to Bend Oregon when the doctors said he could go. We could not wait for that day to come.
When he arrived in Bend, they put him in Rehab and began to work on a lot of different kinds of therapies. He would ask me the same questions over and over, never remembering what I said or what he asked. Amazingly, his body and balance were still strong, but there was a lot that needed to be healed. We never wavered or doubted if we would be o.k. We felt God’s provision and constant encouragement all around us, all the time. God used people, His Word, and circumstances, to keep us constantly aware of His hand upon us. We were in awe of the miracle that had happened! We talked and shared about it constantly, which continued to strengthen our hearts and faith.
God provided abundantly for our bills and daily needs:
- .Almost immediately, the Windansea surf club, put on a contest and raffle in Brew’s honor that raised $14,000.00. This kept our family from going into debt and still amazes us to this day.
- My girl friends and prayer partners in San Diego, had a garage sale for our family.
- MOPS- moms of pre-schoolers in Bend OR, brought us food and raised funds for our family and did not even know us.
- Local churches took offerings and brought food to our home.
- Local radio stations and newspapers did stories on us due to the obvious miracle that had happened. People (strangers) that had heard our story, showed up at our house with food each night.
It seemed like day after day, we watched God’s provision and love pour in. It was a very tender time. I was so aware of God’s hand and my faith growing, yet was still limping around from my injuries and feeling those pains, but at the same time feeling strong, loved, so in awe of my Father God.
In awe of His mighty wonders,
